New York City Two Years After Covid

April 2022

Since the Covid pandemic began two years ago I was asked when I would return to the city and frankly I don't have an answer as there is an uptick in Covid and the energies have changed though not for the better.

Many people had to return to the city for work this year though thousands quit their jobs and others said they would only come back part time. It's not just the emotional baggage linked to returning to the office but often the commute. For better or worse Covid changed the way we live our lives.

Crime is rising faster than most people ever anticipated with no end in sight. This is not just a New York City or a metropolitan problem. It affects all communities and often results in mass shootings and domestic terrorist attacks.

If I take my car to the city it costs a fortune for the meters if you're lucky enough to get one and $60+ on average for a parking garage. Luckily you can park for free on Sundays of you can find a spot.

A car service is cheaper and generally most efficient. Uber is more expensive depending on the day and time so I take a car service and have for years. There are buses but I'm so far south it takes too long. I tried it once after I moved here but never again although they are safe.

As I've always lived in NYC I've seen and done most things the city has to offer yet each time I visit I feel like it's my first as I love New York and there is always something exciting going on. It would take a book ... or two ... or three to describe my adventures which has been suggested to me by friends in publishing but the choice was always ... a book or Crystalinks and I chose the later. For now I don't think there's anything that important waiting for me in the city that it's worth the trip.

Today the world is highlighted by Covid, climate change, crime, chaos (war), among other things. As Russia continues its invasion of Ukraine the world could turn into a dystopian society but hopefully the simulation will end before anything like that happens.

I plan to spend the rest of my days here in Brooklyn - in my home on the water facing the Verrazano Bridge, huge domed skylights, majestic views, and a great community. I'm sure I'll return to the city on occasion with friends, family, or more media just not sure when.
