ASU cosmologist suggests studying moon for alien artifacts   PhysOrg - December 26, 2011
If you were part of a team sent to explore an unknown planet; and that planet had a natural orbiting moon, wouldnÕt it make sense to use that moon as a base camp or remote observation post? Especially if you didn't want those being observed to know you were there? Professor Paul Davis and research technician Robert Wagner think so, and thatÕs why they've published a paper in Acta Astronautica that suggests we humans begin taking a little closer look at our own moon to see if any alien life forms might have left behind some evidence of their visit.

Mysterious Planet-Size Object Spotted Near Mercury   Live Science - December 7, 2011
On Dec. 1, a camera onboard NASA's STEREO spacecraft recorded a wave of electrically charged material shooting out from the sun and blasting Mercury. Footage of this coronal mass ejection (CME), as such events are called, has caught the attention of alien-hunters, who say it has unveiled a giant, "cloaked" spaceship parked near the solar system's innermost planet. In the footage, one sees a huge spurt of plasma and other solar ejecta washing over Mercury; peculiarly, the material seems to flare up as it hits another nearby object, too. "It's cylindrical on either side and has a shape in the middle. It definitely looks like a ship to me, and very obviously, it's cloaked," YouTube-user siniXster said in his video commentary on the footage, which has quickly spread across the Web.

White House: There's no sign of E.T. or UFO cover-up   MSNBC - November 6, 2011
The White House has responded to two petitions asking the U.S. government to acknowledge formally that aliens have visited Earth and to disclose any intentional withholding of government interactions with extraterrestrial beings. "The U.S. government has no evidence that any life exists outside our planet, or that an extraterrestrial presence has contacted or engaged any member of the human race," Phil Larson from the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy reported on the WhiteHouse.gov website."In addition, there is no credible information to suggest that any evidence is being hidden from the publicÕs eye."

An alien code close to home: Seeking ET beyond the radio silence   PhysOrg - October 27, 2011
Any intelligent extraterrestrial life that exists probably won't announce itself by blowing up the White House, or win over the hearts of children as a lovable alien with a glowing finger. Many scientists simply hope to find evidence of them by scanning the skies for a radio signal from a distant star's alien civilization. But such efforts may also risk overlooking clues of past alien activity right here on Earth.

Alien abductions may be vivid dreams: study   MSNBC - October 26, 2011
Researchers say they have conducted "the first experiment to ever prove that close encounters with UFOs and extraterrestrials are a product of the human mind." In a sleep study by the Out-Of-Body Experience Research Center in Los Angeles, 20 volunteers were instructed to perform a series of mental steps upon waking up or becoming lucid during the night that might lead them to have out-of-body experiences culminating in encounters with aliens. According to lead researcher Michael Raduga, more than half the volunteers experienced at least one full or partial out-of-body experience, and seven of them were able to make contact with UFOs or extraterrestrials during these dream-like experiences.

UFO Reports Spiked this Summer   Live Science - September 18, 2011
According to an organization that tracks UFO reports, this summer has been an especially busy period for UFO sightings. The Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) noted that sightings increased over the past six weeks, with some states more than doubling their normal numbers. Are we on the cusp of an alien invasion? Or maybe people just have more time on their hands to spot - and report - strange things in the sky?

Did an amateur spot secret Mars base?   MSNBC - June 6, 2011
A self-described "armchair astronaut" claims to have identified a human (or alien) base on Mars. David Martines noticed a mysterious rectangular structure that appears to be on the Red Planet's surface while trolling the planetary surface using Google Mars, a new map program created from compiled satellite images of the planet. This is a video of something I discovered on Google Mars quite by accident," said Martines, the armchair astronaut, in a now-viral YouTube video. "I call it Bio Station Alpha, because I'm just assuming that something lives in it or has lived in it.

He zooms in the surface anomaly - a long, pixelated, white object - and lists the coordinates as 49'19.73''N 29 33'06.53''W. "It's over 700 feet long and 150 feet wide. It looks like it's a cylinder or made up of cylinders," he says. Has Martines really found evidence of alien life, or a secret space base, as he and some media sources are claiming? No, say experts: "Bio Station Alpha" is simply a glitch in the image caused by cosmic energy interfering with the camera.

Cue the conspiracies: Australia UFO X-Files 'lost'   MSNBC - June 7, 2011

Sydney newspaper requested the files, but military says they can't be found. After a two-month search in response to a newspaper Freedom of Information (FOI) request, which forces government officials to release documents of public interest, Australia's Department of Defense had been unable to locate the files, the Sydney Morning Herald said.

British X-Files reveal secret UFO study   MSNBC - August 4, 2010

Britain released hundreds of previously secret "UFO files" on Thursday, including a letter saying that Winston Churchill had ordered a 50-year cover-up of a wartime encounter between an unidentified flying object and military pilot. The files, published by the National Archives, span decades and contain scores of witness accounts, sketches and classified briefing notes documenting mysterious sightings across Britain.

Churchill ordered UFO cover-up, National Archives show   BBC - August 5, 2010

The government took the threat of UFOs so seriously in the 1950s that UK intelligence chiefs met to discuss the issue, newly-released files show. Ministers even went on to commission weekly reports on UFO sightings from a committee of intelligence experts. The papers also include a wartime account claiming prime minister Winston Churchill ordered a UFO sighting be kept secret to prevent "mass panic". The files show reports of UFOs peaked in 1996 - when The X Files was popular. The Joint Intelligence Committee is better known for providing briefings to the government on matters relating to security, defense and foreign affairs. But the latest batch of UFO files released from the Ministry of Defense to the National Archives shows that, in 1957, the committee received reports detailing an average of one UFO sighting a week.

Zecharia Sitchin: Looking for alien DNA   MSNBC - June 16, 2010

Zecharia Sitchin says he's willing to stake everything he's written about alien astronauts on DNA tests that could be performed on the 4,500-year-old remains of a high-ranking Sumerian woman. It's the latest - and possibly the last - cause celebre for a fringe celebrity.

SETI at 50: 10 key moments in the search for extraterrestrial life   Telegraph.co.uk - September 29, 2009

The Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence, or SETI, is 50 years old this month. We look at 10 memorable events in the search for life on other planets.

Vatican: Father Funes says the universe is so vast that other life forms may exist BBC - May 13, 2008

The Pope's chief astronomer says that life on Mars cannot be ruled out. Writing in the Vatican newspaper, the astronomer, Father Gabriel Funes, said intelligent beings created by God could exist in outer space. Father Funes, director of the Vatican Observatory near Rome, is a respected scientist who collaborates with universities around the world. The search for forms of extraterrestrial life, he says, does not contradict belief in God. The official Vatican newspaper headlines his article 'Aliens Are My Brother'.

'Flying Triangle' sightings on the rise MSNBC - September 2, 2004

They have become legendary in UFO circles. Huge, silent-running ÒFlying TrianglesÓ have been seen by ground observers creeping through the sky low and slow near cities, and quietly cruising over highways. The National Institute for Discovery Science, or NIDS, has cataloged the Triangle sightings, sifting through and combining databases to take a hard look at the mystery craft. Based in Las Vegas, NIDS is a privately funded science institute with a strong research focusing on aerial phenomena. The results of their study have just been released, and lead to some unnerving, puzzling conclusions. The study points out: The United States is currently experiencing a wave of Flying Triangle sightings that may have intensified in the 1990s, especially towards the latter part of the 1990s. The wave continues. The Flying Triangles are being openly deployed over and near population centers, including in the vicinity of major interstate highways.
