Tina Turner: Beyonce, Mick Jagger and Elton John honor 'total legend'
Tina Turner was an icon especially in my generation. We sang to her music memorizing her moves. We also shared her joys and sorrows (domestic violence) and how she helped change the lives of others by telling her story. The Tina Turner Musical on Broadway in 2022 was an experience not to be forgotten.
I live in a world of an 'upbeat harmonic' not the blues. The news quoted Tina Turner as saying something that really resonated with me. "I don't want to sing about hurt and depression - singing the blues and getting fat. When I listen to rock 'n' roll music, those guys wrote about fun stuff and naughty stuff that make you happy and laugh. That's what I want in my music. I don't want to sing about hurt and depression and stand there and get sad."
I feel exactly the same way about all forms of art. I understand that music is a catharsis of a pain and suffering. Just look at Taylor Swift and the men in her past. How many times are we going to listen to singers talk about their broken hearts? I guess the answer depends on how long they're going to make money doing it.
What draws people to the dark side of artistic expression is their emotional programming and those who empathize with them and follow along. The human dynamic is always about abuse and healing. I tend to stick with the fun stuff as much as I can.
