Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg Dies

Friday September 18, 2020

In the energies of a New Moon in Virgo and Rosh Hashanah the Jewish New Year - the world lost Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg after a brave battle with pancreatic cancer. Ruth fought the good fight on many fronts - personal and humanitarian. Her death is another tragic loss for the country as if a piece of history is gone along with so many other pillars of American Democracy. She was an icon on many fronts who wanted to stay on the Supreme Court until after the presidential election in November. Her death opens another dimension in the battle for control.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg was born on March 15, 1933. She was Jewish from Brooklyn growing up in a neighborhood not far from where I was raised. There is an overlap in our ethnic backgrounds and cultural heritage allowing me to understand the significance of dying on Rosh Hashanah at the start of the Jewish High Holy days.

In a world where we seek our purpose and to make a difference Ruth was lucky enough to be blessed with that opportunity. She spent a lifetime flourishing in the face of adversity before being appointed a Supreme Court justice, where she successfully fought against gender discrimination for men as well as women - and unified the liberal block of the court.

Ruth was spunky and determined. Many of you may remember her working out with a personal trainer in the Supreme Court's exercise room - after dealing with cancer - to encourage others to stay healthy and fit.

Justice Ginsburg proved time and again that she was a force to be reckoned with, and those who doubted her capacity to effectively complete her judicial duties needed only to look at her record in oral arguments, where she was, until her death, among the most avid questioners on the bench.

She will be missed by many and hopefully not replaced during the Trump administration as she fought hard not to see that happen and her legacy live on.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg to be first woman to lie in state at Capitol and will lie in repose at Supreme Court
