It's All in the Script

May 10, 2020

I hope you and your family enjoyed a beautiful Mother's Day no matter how you celebrated. To me it was a time to connect virtually with my children and grandchildren. Much to my surprise we discovered that my grandson Michael, who graduates from Boston College this month, used his quarantined time to write a screenplay. His flare for storytelling and the written word has showed itself through the years. In his sophomore year he ran a local newspaper in Boston and always helps his cousins and others with their college entrance essays. I plan to take some time over the next few days to read Michael's script.

Though Michael's major and passions take him to Communication and Finance he finds writing very easy. He wrote the script in just a few days. Like me he is a storyteller but is much better at descriptive writing. As to my screenplay "Sarah and Alexander" - the original version ended on July 4, 2012 - the day scientists at CERN found the Higgs Boson. That version of my script got as far as Steven Spielberg's readers but it never reached his desk.

Some of you may remember that on 8/8/2015 or 8.8.8 an actress came for reading who is connected to Roland Emmerich. She brought the script to his readers and once again they loved it, but told her it needed a more professional writer for them to present it to Emmerich. As the clock ticks down on the end date - that rewrite ended on July 4, 2020 - I have to wonder if anything major is going to happen that day.

Through it all I am flattered that my screenplay made it as far as it did and was well received.
