Americans are feeling more negative about their personal finances than they have in four decades, with many saying the situation has gotten worse rather than better, according to a new study. Conducted by NORC at the University of Chicago, the General Social Survey reported last month that 37.4 percent of Americans felt their financial situation got worse over the last several years, compared with 28.3 percent who thought so in 2008 and 15.7 percent in 2000. In addition, for the first time since 1972, the portion of Americans saying that they are "not at all" satisfied with their financial situation, 31.5 percent, notably exceeded the share who said they are "pretty well" satisfied, 23.4 percent.
In Europe people celebrated Beltane.
In Rome, the late Pope John Paul II was beatified.
It was the 160th anniversary of the first World's Fair.
The Empire State Building celebrated its 80th anniversary.

The day was cool and pleasant here in New York City, perfect for the NYC Five Boro Bike Tour. As I do each year, I went to the park across the street, this time with a client named Kristin, to meet people from all over the world.
Something new in 2011 ... the water goes from the fire hydrant through the white hose to refill the blue jars.
These people came from upstate NY. They wore pinwheel hats to better locate each other.
They reminded me of the hats from the Royal Wedding.
