I took these photos in Cannonball Park at the annual parade.
Midnight Ride of Paul Revere - Signaling the Alert
Warning the Minutemen that the British were coming
12:00 ... Tick Tock !
Too bad these guys didn't have cell phones and computers. Think of how history could have evolved with the push of a button or the click of a mouse. Look at how we play our 'war games' today -- everything from technology to psychic remote reviewing to chemical warfare to star wars.
When 'The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere' was written in 1860, America was on the verge of Civil War. In light of this, Longfellow created a stirring patriotic legend to remind New Englanders of the patriotism in the stories of the country's founding fathers. He warns at the end of the poem of a coming "hour of darkness and peril and need", implying the break up of the Union, and suggests that the "people will waken and listen to hear" the midnight message again.
The American Revolution cemented the Masonic Program on the north American continent. Do we currently approach another midnight hour when the "people will again awaken and listen to hear" a warning tone? Will the flame, be not that of a lamp, but a sacred flame that signals the passage of time into light?
