2020 Democratic National Convention in Virtual Reality

The 2020 Democratic National Convention was held from August 17 to 20, 2020, at the Wisconsin Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and virtually across the United States. At the convention, delegates of the United States Democratic Party formally chose former Vice President Joe Biden and Senator Kamala Harris of California as the party's nominees for president and vice president, respectively, in the 2020 United States presidential election.

Originally scheduled to be held July 13-16, 2020, at the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee, due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic in the United States the convention was postponed to August 17-20, 2020, and was ultimately downsized, with its location shifted to the city's Wisconsin Center, and with most of the convention emanating remotely from sites across the United States.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the format was substantially different from previous conventions, with the duration of each day of the convention being significantly shorter than in past conventions, and with most of the convention being held remotely from many venues across the country. While being a largely virtual convention, it was officially centered at the Wisconsin Center, which is where its production was headquartered, where its roll call was directed from, and where a limited number of speeches (primarily those by Wisconsin politicians) were staged.

Pre-recorded Keynote Speeches

100 years ago in the US.

The global flu pandemic (February 1918 to April 1920) was over. WWI would end on November 11 or 11/11. It was a brave new world in a new decade and relatively new century. WWI was supposed to be the 'war to end all wars' and life would be prosperous as many immigrants moved to the US from Europe and other nations. Hopes and dreams of freedom emerged.

Great men came here and built empires they would one day pass down to the generation that followed. This of course brought the usual internalization of family dynamics and how they would play out on these shores.

Democracy seemed to be taking hold no matter how the bipartisan system played out though 100 years later divisions are still apparent as people continue to protest for their rights.

On August 18, 1918 the 19th Amendment of the US Constitution was ratified guaranteeing women the legal right to vote. It would take decades before things would slowly change from the governing body of white men - most of whom are selfserving - to women making a difference.

2020 is a particularly difficult year upended on every turn by current leadership. The right to vote must be exercised in the upcoming election or all will be lost in the tomes of American history.

What I see ahead for the country is nothing but chaos and anarchy - now unfolding by different factions in and outside of the United States. It's the conspiracy algorithm that has kept the gears of time in motion since the beginning.

Democracy at this point is questionable as we move forward with known and unknown challenges and in truth no one able to fix the issues. Too many people are unemployed losing their homes, medical insurance, and the ability to focus on what they think will be the new normal. Education - about anything and everything - seems confusing as 2020 moves forward uncertainty at every turn. The emotions that rule are depression and anxiety (fear).

Divided - those for Trump and those opposed. Those who believe the coronavirus will soon be gone and others who understand this is an end time pandemic. All groups align based on their programming.

It is what it is

Life moves in cycles repeating the algorithms of its creation. They thought it wouldn't come to pass in Germany 100 years ago but they were wrong. The pandemic has repeated itself. Let's not let a crazy dictator stay in power and take us down.

When it comes to politics none of it makes sense to me - never has. It reaps of legislative and judicial injustice. I don't think that's going to change as our bipolar reality created a bipartisan system which will always cause confusion, backstabbing, backroom deals, and everything else you already know - updated in 2020 with technology - life as a virtual landscape.

Worst of all are the political debates where candidates bash each other sometimes turning them into a free-for-all thus aligning with certain elements in our population. Shortly following ... candidates must choose one person regardless of the negative things they've said. Would any of this makes sense if you were an observer? It's about the battle and the emotions elicited. Without them there would be no reality. Humans need to 'feel' to register as real.

2020 is a political election year like no other set on a virtual sound stage mirroring reality. There is fraud and collusion at home and abroad. This could turn into a disaster the likes of which the world has ever seen. The incumbent is incapable of dealing with the job - elected to bring chaos as the simulation returns to its original state.

So many people working so hard to right the wrongs - yet at the end of the day whoever is scheduled to be president will win. It is what it is!
