Honoring Coronavirus Frontline Workers

Tuesday April 28, 2020

Today was highlighted by NYC Frontline Workers Honored with Military Jet Flyover.

The planes were supposed to fly over the Verrazano at 12:00 so armed with a camera I stood on my terrace and watched above and below.

On the street I noticed dozens of people rushing to the esplanade along the water to get a better look. The sights and sounds of traffic in the street went on for blocks.

Sunny nice days have been few and far between this spring so it was if the whole neighborhood was outdoors some perhaps working from home taking a lunch break.

Across the street people stood on their rooftops ready to video the planes when they came by. It was a beautiful sight to see if not brief. For me, who has seen these flyovers many times in the past from here, it was just about the energies of the people more than seeing the planes.

People returning to their cars or homes gave me the opportunity to see that social distancing was not happening. Cops drove by and yelled at them ... actually a firetruck came by as well signaling people to move along and keep a safe distance. It's not that easy to do when there's not enough room to do it and there's no organized line. Most mornings I see joggers going by without gloves and masks but keeping respectable distances.

I wonder about wearing masks and gloves once the weather gets hot and humid. I don't think I'll be able to breathe so I don't think I'll be doing it. I compared notes on this with friends on Facebook and they say they get lightheaded and dizzy, and their glasses fog up in the heat as many of them live in warm weather climates.

Today was in the 60s in the city so going out to run a few errands in the morning was somewhat comfortable but I just don't see this mask and glove thing working out, at least not for me when it gets hot.

Speaking of coronavirus, remember that urgent care center I told you about that it finally opened in my building. Well I guess I'm the last one to know since I haven't gone out much in the past month but it seems they do corona testing. Have I even considered it? No. I don't want to go close to anything where contagion could happen. Actually there are people in my building freaking out that some sick people may enter our building which now has large notes on all the doors saying this is not a medical office.

The craziness continues. It is so far from over this feels like the tip of the 2020 iceberg.
