Menarguez Grand Slam Powers Ridge 10-Year-Olds   Basking Ridge Patch - July 25, 2011

The Basking Ridge 10-year-old team closed out the the 2011 season with a 10-8 victory over Bayonne in the Super Summer Tournament at Basking Ridge Sunday evening. Ridge trailed Bayonne 4-1 until Brian Menarguez hit a grand slam home run in the third inning to secure a lead the Basking Ridge team never relinquished.

The Basking Ridge 10-year-old team never gave up in their battle with Bayonne for the championship. The Ridge pitching staff overcame a four-run opening barage to impose 10 strikeouts on their opponents, keeping them scoreless except until another four-run assault in the fifth inning.

The highlight of the Ridge attack came in the third inning when Brian Menarguez came to the plate with bases loaded. Menarguez hit a high drive over the left center fence for a grand-slam home run to punctuate a six-run and 11-batter inning for Ridge.

Menarguez went 2-for-2 with a walk and five RBIs. Brian Zimmermann went 2-for-4 and scored two runs. Michael Mahala had four walks in the game and scored twice. "This is a great way to end the season. They never gave up," Basking Ridge Manager Greg Menarguez said.
