A Tearful Good-bye to Jay Leno - You Will Be Missed

Thursday evening February 6, 2014

Jay Leno, 63, aired his final show as host of The Tonight Show. I hate to see him go as I like the way he presents the news with a humorist twist, but alas it is time for change and what better way to bring in a newer than with the extremely talented Jimmy Fallon who has been "rehearsing" the past five years with his own show "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon".

As with Len's predecessors I would have liked to see him retire rather than be fired, yet this is truly symbolic of the way the corporate world works today. Happily, Jay leaves center stage in the number one late-night talks show position.

"It's fun to kind of be the old guy and sit back here and see where the next generation takes this great institution, and it really is. It's been a great institution for 60 years. I'm so glad I got to be a part of it, but it really is time to go, hand it off to the next guy. It really is. This has been the greatest 22 years of my life." Leno shared that he'd lost his mother the first year he became "Tonight" host, his dad the second and then his brother. "And after that I was pretty much out of family. And the folks here became my family,"he said of the crew and staff of "Tonight." "And in closing, I want to quote Johnny Carson, who was the greatest guy to ever do this job. And he said, 'I bid you all a heartfelt goodbye, " as tears welled in Leno's eyes.

Jay Leno was the host of NBC's "The Tonight Show" from 1992 to 2009. Beginning in September 2009 (Mercury Retrograde: September 6-29) Leno started a primetime talk show, The Jay Leno Show, which aired weeknights at 10:00 p.m. on NBC.
