Ellie and the NYPD Blue

It all began Thursday, August 4, 2005, at 8am when I heard the sounds of policemen in my hallway. They were trying to get into apartment 6C, 2 doors down.

This is the apartment a man named David, 39, a nutritionist, lived before he went missing last winter. You may recall that I worked with the police on David's missing person case, finding David in a psychiatric ward, with amnesia.

The apartment has been rented several times since last winter, without success, most unusual for this building. Only recently a new tenet, a man who I never met, had moved it. On Thursday, before the police arrive, a woman had called NYPD to report that the man was unconscious in the apartment.

After hearing the police in the hallway and I ran out to see what was going on. There were 4 male police officers outside the apartment ringing the bell and banging on the door. The rest of the tenants had gone to work.

The police, who know me from other cases, quickly explained the situation.

Feeling like Johnny from the TV series Dead Zone, I touched the door and 'saw' that the apartment was empty.

My super, Sal, come rushing up with 4 firemen who broke the lock with a 'hachet?' The apartment was empty. The new tenant has never unpacked, cartons scattered about. I sensed that he has mental problems.

Follow-up, Thursday evening ... they found the missing man in a psychiatric ward.

I told Sal that we have to change the energies of the apartment. He laughed and agreed!

I live in a 6-story apartment building at the foot of the Verrazano Bridge, in Brooklyn, New York.
