Each week of readings with clients follows a pattern, though I am never sure why that is.
This week has been my 'gay week', in which 90% of my clients have been gay.
The clients were men and women of different ages, ethnic backgrounds, races, not all were born in American but all are citizens, various careers, goals, and levels of education.
None were here to discuss gay marriages, a major topic at this time, though some were in live-in relationships and considered themselves married.
None were here to discuss gay issues/rights, nor were they activists of any kind.
All were open about being gay, and had been accepted by family members.
All felt comfortable about the gay experience and wouldn't have it any other way!
Issues varied: talking to deceased loved ones, career, money, relocation, health, etc.
Each experience teaches me a bit more about gay life and views on society.
What's also interesting is the number of straight people who have had gay relationships and enjoyed the experience.
Married women are coming out.
Everyone seems to be coming out these days!
As for me...the thought of being gay never entered my mind. I am attracted to men! That will never change! I've never considered a woman, wrong plumbing.
We all have our journeys. Sometimes they take the most unexpected turns. Are you thinking about coming out? If so, why not try it! If you are like some of my clients, you may find it a rewarding experience, though perhaps not a lasting lifestyle.
I stumbled upon a fascinating website called The Soulful Blogger, Ruminations on Cultivating a Scared Life. This is a daily column by a gay man named Joe Perez. It has a great metaphysical slant as he stumbles along trying to find his spiritual path. His views and writing are for everyone.
