Other Rock Stars Born in the 1940's
We are nothing without sound and music

Give me that old time rock and roll ...

They knew (know) how to make music.
I saw them live in concert.
Each decade produces another generation of performers
male and female - with the same archetypes and lifestyles.
... Honoring Paul McCartney (British 1942)
Let's go to my generation - people born in the 1940's. When I think about the crazy flamboyant rock stars of my day .... most substance abusers and sometimes bi-sexual - the men who come to mind are Mick Jagger (British 1943 The Rolling Stones) -- Rod Stewart (British 1945) -- Steven Tyler (American 1948 Aerosmith) - and featured on Google (doodle) today ...

Freddie Mercury was a British musician, singer and songwriter, best known as the lead vocalist of the rock band Queen. Although he cultivated a flamboyant stage personality, Mercury was a very shy and retiring man in person, particularly around people he did not know well. Mercury was an acknowledged bisexual. Mercury also occasionally served as a producer and guest musician (piano or vocals) for other artists. He died of bronchopneumonia brought on by AIDS on, only one day after publicly acknowledging he had the disease. Discography
I won't be a rock star. I will be a legend.
Fuck today, it's tomorrow.

Email from Gabe, 40, from NYC, who just returned from a trip to his home town in Italy
I go to Italy every year to visit my extended family. My great uncle Niccolo was not well when my Mom and I arrived in August. Years of diabetes had taken a toll. The last few years he would say "Ti aspetto", "I will wait for you" - meaning he wouldn't die until I returned the following year. The last few months he was literally on his death bed. When I saw him on Monday 8/29 he looked like he was going to die while I was there - as he was having difficulty breathing. The doctor came and it looked bad. Sunday 9/4, my Mom and I went to say goodbye as we were flying back to NYC on 9/5.
He was laying in bed with oxygen mask just looking very tired. I got on the bed next to him. He heard my voice and took off his oxygen by himself. It was like God gave him extra strength. I started to cry as I told him it is ok, he doesn't need to wait anymore. He had the strength to hug me and kiss me as I hugged him and kissed him back. He had a sip of wine also. It was tough because I know I won't see him alive again. As I was leaving he had the strength to say, "Buon viaggio Gabriele." Last night 9/5, he got called up to the big leagues.
Arriving in NYC - 6:00 p.m.
As the plane was descending into JFK airport - Manhattan was to my left. I looked out the window at the city skyline which was cloudy on the edges with sunlight coming through the clouds. I turned to Mom and said, "Look. The heavens are opening up to let the 9/11 spirits enter." It was so peaceful. I tried taking a picture on my IPad but it didn't come out well. Too bad the peaceful energies this week won't last long. What I saw in Ireland and Italy is scary from a financial perspective. In Ireland you can't even give a house away. In my town in Italy they are building 5 buildings in a town where people are losing jobs and people are trying to sell homes - even in the big cities like Rome.
Here's another story from my 2 days in Dublin. I arrived Friday morning, but my hotel room wasn't ready. I didn't sleep on the plane, so I found a Starbucks to inject myself with caffeine. While waiting in line, I struck up a conversation with the pretty girl in front of me. We talked about the button on her jeans jacket that is written in Dutch and says, "I am a witch. Have a nice day." I went back the next morning and she was in line in front of me again. I was like ... Wow that never happens to me in the states. We start talking and she tells me her brother is moving to Philadelphia. I tell her I am from NYC and to take my # when she visits her brother. She says she really wants to go to NJ because she loves Bruce Springsteen. My jaw dropped. I told her I have seen him 60 times.
Z and I have fun on our travels. LOL
