The season 1 finale of FlashForward was created as a cliffhanger as the series was slated to return at least one more season, therefore many of the issues were unresolved as another flash forward happened taking us to January 1, 2015.
With a few minor changes, reality played out for everyone as it was viewed in their flash forwards.
I was glad to see Olivia and Lloyd together. I didn't understand the ending when Olivia's daughter Charlie, now about 14, has big blue eyes, then the scene reverts back to her in 2010 as the camera focuses in on her brown eyes opening ... again eye symbology is a key. Lloyd's autistic son Dylan, was given a key role, which was well done though I never could do the math.
Gabriel, the savant, should have returned at the end to add to the story.
Two other couples found each other and love bloomed.
Not sure about the fates of Mark Benford, Simon and Demitri, all presumed killed in explosions - Mark at FBI headquarters - and Simon and Demitri when something that resembles the LCH is turned on causing the next flash forward. But ... if you've ever watched soap operas, you know to assume nothing, as everyone gets resurrected, just as they will in "real life" when our program ends. You can also find characters in another storyline as we play many roles - for example ...
It was an interesting touch when pregnant FBI agent Janice was rescued by a female CIA agent during the 2015 flash forward. The CIA agent was played by actress Annabeth Gish who was an FBI agent in X-Files delivering Dana Scully's son and saving both their lives.
You can't have an ending without the camera panning upward towards the sun as seen through the "tall trees", as well as the child playing on a swing (symbolic moving from one reality to another). We can assume the little boy was Janice's son who she sees in 2015.
It was a good show with great potential. Sorry to see it go.
