I spent Father's Day in Westport, CT. where my grandson Matthew and his Dad Ryan won a father-son golf tournament. Nikki's dad, my ex-husband Ralph, died of cancer in 2005. On this day, we felt his presence from time to time in the proud way he was with his children and grandchildren. Ralph always 'sung the praises' of his children. They were his world. Our little Noah told me that he never met Grandpa Ralphie because he was still in mommy's tummy. I love Westport ... from the energies ... to the people ... to just about everything. It would be my first choice to live if I didn't feel such a strong connection to my home by the bridge. Wherever you live, should feel like home.
Over in Basking Ridge, NJ, another grandson, Dylan, 9, was having a banner day competing in a statewide baseball championship. Jon is his Dad. My daughter Zsia called from the baseball field moments after they won the championship - receiving trophies and media coverage. I bet Grandpa Ralphie was there for that also. It must be so much fun to teleport.
I hope you had a great time on Father's Day, and though I don't want to go to issues, I hope you resolved issues with your father, or at least within yourself. Families are a changing dynamic along with the values we now consider important. Never live in the past, it simply doesn't work.
Most people have a story about to tell their father, or one they'd rather forget. It can be current or something buried deep in their childhood memories, waiting to erupt at some point in time.
Don't let your past and your issues define who you are today.
Not everyone is equipped to parent, yet on their other hand others are naturals. Sometimes people grow into the role at different stages of their lives, some never do. Some prefer parenting younger children, and others can't parent until their children are grown.
Why do some clients tell me how abusive their father was - then reverse that energy by saying he was a kind man? Abusers were abused, have personality disorders and most often substance abuse problems.
Do you understand that your father's behavior, just like yours, is all genetic patterning and generational social conditioning?
When was the last time you interacted with your father in a positive way?
When you think about your father, what emotion comes?
If you were creating a Father's Day Card, what would it say?

World Refugee Day, observed June 20 each year, is dedicated to raising awareness of the situation of refugees throughout the world. From June 18 to 20 the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) commemorates World Refugee Day in Washington, DC, in order to draw the public's attention to the millions of refugees worldwide who are forced to flee their homes. Each year, UNHCR selects a theme and coordinates events across the globe.
