Children in 2010

Haiti

Children remain in the news after the 2010 Haiti earthquake - orphans that have come to the US, child trafficking by locals taking advantage of the current situations, and most currently a group of U.S. Baptist missionaries (5 men, 5 women) were arrested charged with child kidnapping wile trying to leave Haiti with a busload of 33 children.

Questions

If we live in the most powerful country in the world, why don't all the children have free medical coverage?
If we are spending so much money overseas, why are so many children here homeless?
Do abuse issues faced by children remain at the same level they were before they came to public attention and we realized just how dysfunctional many families are, and how it takes a lifetime to heal the wounds? Step 1 is always awareness. Step 2 is getting needed help and maintaining it. This is not easy and often requires too much energy. If you can't parent ... don't.

Generations

Parents have always believed that no matter what their lives are about, their children will have a better life.
If you are a parent how do you think your children see you?
If you are a child, how do you see your parents?

Hope

Children have always been thought to be the hope of the future. Hope can be the biggest lie and at the same time the best part of our program as it helps move us forward in troubled times. We are taught that we have to keep going as if it all mattered or we wouldn't keep going at all. Perhaps that is why so many people are programmed to help others on a large scale now, or maybe it is because the program is closing - hope moving from physical to non-physical with an emerging awareness by adults and children.
