Orthodox Jewish community protest Covid-19 restrictions in Brooklyn

Wednesday, as I drove home on a beautiful Autumn afternoon - I noticed children playing in the park across the street which is unusual during school hours. Glancing over at the adults I realized these families were part of the Orthodox Jewish community here in Borough Park, Brooklyn.

Then I remembered Governor Cuomo's briefing Monday where he threatened to shut down certain non-essential businesses, some schools open with restrictions, mass gatherings will be banned, and places of religious worship in communities considered Covid hotspots - if leaders did not comply - Borough Park being one of them.

With everyone in the park not wearing masks - does that mean my local community is not safe for those who like to sit in the park to enjoy the day? If any of those people were contagious the answer is yes because families walked through the park and the virus travels further than people know looking for a host. I never visit the park as I have a better view from home.

A neighbor who works for Verizon worked in Borough Park recently. He told me there is a certain arrogance and ignorance about the people who live there as they walking around without masks - most telling him they already had Covid and don't believe they will get it again. An average wedding and other ceremonies could include hundreds of people which as we have learned creates community spread.

With the coronavirus diagnosis data clearly up in Borough Park and other Orthodox areas in Queens as well as Monsey and Spring Valley in Rockland County, NY - Covid will definitely spread to neighboring communities especially when people leave these areas for business. Positivity in those areas are 10 times the state average. New York City could go back to total shut down due to the negligence of certain communities. It never ceases to amaze me how some people don't really care about contaminating others as long as they can live their lives the way they choose. It's all about the end.

Fiery protests in Brooklyn: Here's the story from the NY Post and a Video from CNN

This virus likes colder weather. Wait and see as cases across the world increase perhaps due to people letting their guard down in order to enjoy social interaction or to keep their businesses going.
