My granddaughter Joie (jeans) and her Besties - You can have more than one Best Friend
We learn through our closest relationships.
Your first best friend should be the person who raised you - parent, grandparent - who made you feel safe and understood as a child. From family along come best friends who are/were present during different chapters of your life. It could be someone you lived with and loved or someone who was there when you needed to talk. Your best friend more often than not is the person you share your adult life with such as a spouse or live-in lover.
Noah, Matthew and their dog Sami who is now 10.
As humans live longer, best friends change through the years. As with romantic relationships best friends often come and go depending on the needs of the people and where they are in life. Very often I have a client tell me their best friend for the past 30 years no longer returns their calls and texts. What did I they do wrong? It has to do with situations in the person's life at a given time. Being a best friend - like being in a relationship - takes time and effort and a desire to want to do that. Sometimes in today's crazy world that energy is simply not there though the other person still cares for you.
We bonded when Sherry lost a bracelet given to her by her grandfather
and I walked with her to a park and found it hidden in the grass.
